To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mo’s Dance and Drama 100 of the students performed a ballet rendition of Cinderella at Reading’s Hexagon Theatre. - June 2013
As the Costume Designer I was involved with the production from the beginning. At the start of the production as the Costume Designer I corresponded with the Producer and Director to discuss the aesthetic tone to generate costume ideas that would complement the theme.
From our discussions I sourced appropriate costumes from the ballet schools collection, the internet and from bespoke tutu seamstresses. This ensured all costumes provided the practicality needed by the dancers and fit the aesthetic tone. I used my sewing skills to embellish basic costumes to fit specific characters and used my pattern cutting knowledge to make tutus and accessories.
I attended all fittings to ensure my design visions would be carried out throughout the cast. As it was a cast of one hundred it was of great importance that all costumes were organised and so I created a well controlled database specifying dancer’s costumes. This was a useful source of reference during the show for me and others which allowed the structured procedure to continue insuring everything ran smoothly.
